Walking To Work

Image of two people waliking to work Walking to work cuts out the expense of the car and the hassle of traffic, and you don’t need any special equipment to do it (apart from some comfortable shoes!) No stress necessary, no traffic jams and no parking problems.

Why spend your free time at the gym when you can work out on the way to and from work? Walking is a great way of getting some exercise and fresh air into your daily routine. Walking regularly can help to reduce stress and is a great way to unwind after work. Just walking a mile each way to work every day meets the government recommendations for physical activity, and it will only take you 15 minutes.

Walking to work is easy if your employer is supportive. This may mean providing facilities for you to store wet clothes and walking shoes if needed, keeping paths clear and well lit and enabling you to walk to meeting and appointments. If your employer could do more to support walking to work, you could suggest they develop a travel plan to address these issues.

Workplaces can also be good places to find someone to walk with - a friend or colleague who walks the same route (or parts of it) at around the same time as you. The Car Share Somerset website also has a Walk Budi section where you can search for people seeking others to walk with.
