Commute Smart Week - Travelling in Safety 28 October 2008

The improvement of safety for those using the highway network in Somerset is a very high priority for the County Council. The Somerset Road Safety Partnership was formed in 2006 to drive down casualty rates and create safer communities through a series of coordinated and well-publicised campaigns and education programmes.

The Partnership runs a range of training programmes for cyclists, motorcyclists and drivers to promote road safety. Safer roads mean fewer casualties, fewer disruptions to the road network due to crashes, and encourage walking and cycling, resulting in healthy lifestyles, less congestion and pollution.

Make sure you’re also well-equipped for winter driving. Check your lights, and make sure you’ve got a blanket and a torch in case you break down.

Full details of the work of the Somerset Road Safety Partnership can be found on its website www.SRSP.org.uk
