The shortest commute to work

Friday 15th May is Moving Forward's Work From Home Day, encouraging businesses to think about how their staff travel to work.

Moving Forward is doing a short one-side survey of employers in Somerset to find out what measures employers already have in place to support smarter working.

Find out more and complete the survey here. Please respond by May 31st, 2009.

Moving Forward will then be in a position to provide better advice to businesses and respond to their needs.

Part of the National WorkWise week, the day is part of a series of themed days (listed below) highlighting what businesses can do to improve travel for their employees.

Mobile Office Day Tuesday, May 12 - work on the move, instead of travelling to a central office.

Remote Office Day Wednesday, May 13 - use remote offices instead of travelling to a central office, including serviced office space, touch down centres or even hot spots such as coffee shops.

Virtual Meeting Day Thursday, May 14 - conduct meetings by audio or video conferencing or go online instead of travelling to meetings.

Work from Home Day Friday, May 15 - work from home instead of commuting.

Smarter Travel Day Monday, May 18 - travel outside peak times. This will reduce the peak rush hour, and make the commuting experience far more bearable for many.

Somerset County Council is encouraging all its staff to book one day during this week working at home, and businesses in Somerset are urged to follow suit where the nature of work is suitable.
