School Case Study

Park-and-Stride at Chilthorne Domer

Chilthorne Domer Primary School is a small rural school about 4km from Yeovil. Many of the pupils (around 50 in a school of 111) live in Yeovil, As illustrated by the pupil plot map (click for larger version).

Those pupils living outside the village were being driven to the in which contributed to the congestion and lack of safety outside the school.

However, the school agreed with a nearby pub that parents could park in the pub’s car park and then walk the final 200m to school, as shown by the park and stride map below (click for larger version). This allows pupils to stretch their legs before and after school and also takes a lot of traffic away from the school, improving life for not just the school users but the people who live nearby too.
