Healthy Schools

The Healthy Schools Programme is a national initiative which promotes a whole school/whole child approach to health. Its aims are:

  • To improvement in health and reduced health inequalities;
  • To raise pupil achievement;
  • To increase social inclusion; and,
  • To promote closer working between health promotion providers and education establishments.

A School Travel Plan and Healthy Schools status can be mutually beneficial. Active travel, such as walking or cycling, is far healthier than coming by motorised means, as well as all the other benefits outlined on this site.

To get your school started on attaining or improving your school’s Healthy Schools status, contact Clare Laker at Somerset County Council on 01225 332118 or by email.
