School Transport Strategy
School transport strategy and policy is decided by Somerset County Council, guided by national government policies.
The County Council's aim is to help and encourage more children to travel to school more sustainably, to help keep children healthy and minimise congestion on the roads.
Somerset County Council also commissions and provides school transport services. When a child is awarded a place at a new school, the School Admissions Team will also assess whether that child is entitled to free school transport. You can find out more information about school transport, including the criteria for free school transport, and make an application for transport on the School Transport pages on Somerset County Council's website. You can also use these pages to report any problems you are experiencing with school transport, including bad behaviour or bullying on school buses.
As well as providing transport to primary and secondary schools, the Council also provides some services and support to help older students get to college and further education. See the Travel Choices for Young People section of this website for more information.
