Travelling To School On Public Buses

If your child is not eligible for free home to school transport you may be able to use a public bus service.

Using public buses to get and from school provide children with a valuable life skill, giving them experience of using public transport that they’ll be able to use again throughout their life.

It's easy to find out about bus services. You can use our online Journey Planner to find out about the buses that serve, or go near to, your school. If you prefer to get information over the phone, you can call Traveline’s information service on 0870 200 22 33.

In addition, many bus stops have a code on their sign which, if you text it to 84268 will text back to you the next three buses due at that stop.

16-19 year old students in Somerset can get what's called 'The County Ticket' to pay for bus travel. More information can be found in our Travel Choices for Young People section.
