Motorcycling
You can reduce the amount of CO2 emissions your journey produces by choosing a small motorcycle in place of a car. Because of lower energy requirements, motorcycles can use less fuel and emit less CO2 than cars.
Motorcycles take up less space on the road, causing less congestion. Have you ever thought how much more traffic there might be if every motorcyclist decided to drive a car instead? Somerset County Council wants to see better facilities for motorcyclists provided at workplaces, such as secure dedicated parking places. It also offers workplace-based training to offer safety tips and good riding advice through the Somerset Road Safety Partnership.
It is generally accepted that some large motorcycles can be as bad for the environment as a small car. However, with the right choice of one with an economical, smaller engine, a motorcycle may well be the right option for you if you don't have decent transport alternatives.
Whatever your reason for choosing two wheels, you could find a number of benefits over driving a car:
- Journey times compared to cars over the same distance are quicker
- Cheaper road tax and insurance
- Cheaper MOT and maintenance costs
- Good fuel economy
- Parking is easy and often free
- Relatively low polluting and cost effective
