Some sites generate far more traffic from visitors and customers than they do from the staff they employ.

Some parts of Somerset are very rurul and this includes the location of many tourist attractions. The Green Access for Countryside Recreation publication, developed for the East of England region, contains a lot of good tips for making it easier for people to reach countryside destinations without a car. These hints include:

  • Keep information up-to-date - and listen to feedback from users
  • Make sure front line staff know about, and promote, alternative ways to travel to the site
  • Make sure information is repeated in different places (websites, leaflets, way-marking) across all media used by the organisation
  • Provide dedicated accesses that are convenient for walkers and cyclists
