Taunton Cyclists Celebrate Travel on Two-Wheels

Cyclists in Taunton are joining together to demonstrate their commitment to healthy travel on two wheels.

They‘re showing their support for cycling by using a new logo that has been developed by pupils at The Castle and Bishop Fox’s Schools. The work is part of a partnership project between the schools, Somerset County Council and Taunton Deane Borough Council to encourage more young people to cycle.

Jaysen Sharpe and Fraser Medford from The Castle School and Daniel Potter, Liam Darlington and Daniel Mayo from Bishop Fox’s School with the logo they worked on designing. They gathered with representatives from Somerset County Council and Taunton Deane Borough Council to celebrate the launch of the logo.

Any organisation in the area can use the ‘Taunton Deane Bike Riders’ logo to signal their enthusiasm and support for this healthy and enjoyable form of transport. Businesses, clubs and organisations wanting to support cycling can contact Somerset County Council for information and advice on setting up a Bicycle User Group to improve facilities for cyclists and encourage others to cycle.

Commenting on the launch of the logo, Councillor David Hall, Cycling Champion for Somerset County Council said:
“It’s wonderful to see cyclists from all walks of life, from professionals to school children, coming together to celebrate cycling in Taunton. Somerset County Council is committed to supporting cycling and providing a variety of services, advice and training for anyone interested in enhancing their cycling experience.”

Support for cycling is provided as part of Somerset County Council’s ‘Moving Forward’ initiative, which aims to reduce carbon emissions and ease congestion by promoting more sustainable ways to travel.
