Taunton’s Third Way Opened

A new £7.5m link road and bridges to ease Taunton town centre congestion and help economic growth was opened by Transport Minister Norman Baker on Tuesday.

Thirteen cars, including a Crewkerne-made Ariel Atom and a dozen vintage and classic cars, took the Minister and guests to the ceremony.  The first members of the public allowed across the landmark River Tone bridge were 70 supporters of the St Margaret’s Hospice who held a celebratory walk.  Counted down by 380 North Town School children and the public, the ceremony concluded with Mr Baker cutting a ribbon on a new bridge across the River Tone linking Wood Street and Castle Street.

Two bridges, 500 metres of road, new junctions and new stores for the Tangier Scout and Guide Centre were included in
the works.
