Somerset woman cycles through Vietnam and Cambodia for charity

Rachel Benyon from South Petherton is taking on an immense and challenging cycle ride of a lifetime!

On 9 October 2010, she will join other cyclists from around the country, who will together cycle approximately 525 km, over 8 days, across Vietnam and Cambodia. Rachel will be taking part in this event to raise money for Breast Cancer Care to support people affected by breast cancer.

Rachel, who works for Somerset County Council in Yeovil, cycles 10-15 miles  three times a week, plus a 25 mile ride at the weekend. Cycling in the areas close to her home, her favourite routes take in Martock, Coat, Kingsbury Episcopi, Thorney, Langport, East Lambrook and Shepton Beauchamp, and all include some very steep hills!

Despite being a regular cyclist, she will undertake a four month rigorous training plan before the event to build up her stamina and endurance. The cycle ride is a tough challenge that pushes cyclists to their limits and for Rachel, nutrition, stretching, and endless hours of cycling will become an important part of life over the next few months.

Talking to Moving Forward, Rachel said:
“Taking part in this event is a great challenge for me and something which is close to my heart. I have strict training targets to make sure I am fit enough for the ride and to ensure I don’t let down those who have sponsored me”.

Rachel has pledged that she will raise at least £3,500 and still has a long way to go to reach her goal, but she is very determined lady and would like to call on local businesses and individuals to support her.
