New BBC Season on Getting Outdoors
A new season of programmes on camping and getting out by bike has started on the BBC.
BBC Four’s The Call Of The Wild season celebrates "the great British love affair with the countryside" – "whatever the weather". If you can stand the sentimentality, the series of programmes provides some useful insights into what we were, where we have come from and what we have lost. It highlights the role of the cyclist in exploring Britain's open countryside, and the advent of camping in the late 19th and early 20th century. There is some amusing footage and tales from people still 'living the life' in this way.
