Have a Long Run at Taunton's New Country Park

Taunton now has a fantastic new outdoor space that also makes walking and cycling across town much easier.

The Meadows are still a ‘work in progress’. Currently in the design and construction phase are two new structures – the green cathedral and green oak framed barn.

You can access Longrun Meadows from French Weir or from Castle School (behind Somerset College) and there are a series of paths mown into the meadow or surfaced more formally that run through the area. New hardwood bridges have been implemented to allow visitors to cross the River Tone at various points, and the number of bridging points across ditches are being increased. There is also a new electric boat service from outside the Brewhouse Theatre on St James Street. Otherwise visitors are encouraged to arrive by walk or cycle.

Many visitors drew up to the area over the recent sunny Bank Holiday Weekend, and commented on what a remarkable new area of idlyllic open space the meadows have opened up. Why not make a visit to these tranquil surroundings yourself and take the family for a walk.

The purchasing of the land was funded by the Regional Development Agency and the development is being managed by Project Taunton.
