Decision due for new holiday resort in Mendip: Update

Cookswood Quarry was given delegated approval at Mendip's planning board on 21st July.

The Moving Forward team has been advising on a travel plan for the development since 2007. Consultants have been used by the owner of the site to devise a strategy which is designed to reduce the impact of holiday-makers arriving at the Center Parcs-style facility near Holcombe, situated between Frome, Wells and Bath.

The proposed travel plan includes initiatives such as arrive and collect minibus services for people arriving in the area by train, and there are plans to introduce cycle and electric vehicle hire as part of the proposals to ensure people's trips in the local area are sustainable as possible. It is hoped that people will use facilities like this to holiday closer to home rather than taking trips abroad each year.

Moving Forward provides a range of guidance for destinations coping with a lot of demand for access by car. You can find out more on our Visitor Travel page, and can download a copy of the draft travel plan from iOnTRAVEL (search for Cookswood Quarry).
