Boris Bikes are Go!

Boris Johnson's much anticipated cycle hire scheme for London has launched today.

5,000 bicycles are currently available at 315 docking stations across the city, set to rise to 6,000 at 400 stations in the next few weeks.

Initial reactions from members of the public and the media alike have been generally positive, barring a few gripes about the bikes being a bit too slow and heavy for some, and some teething problems with some of the docking stations.

The Guardian website, amongst others, has been gauging opinion and feeding back reviews throughout the day.

If you are going to London in the near future, why not test one out and let us know what you think? There is a handy map of all the docking stations and information on how the scheme works

Until September, you have to register in advance, but after that there will be a Pay-As-You-Go option.
