Improved Access For Bus Users In Mendip And Sedgemoor

Passengers who use the 669 bus service from Street to Shepton Mallet will be able to get on and off the bus more easily, thanks to Somerset County Council.

From Monday 1 June 2009, Frome Minibuses will operate this route under contract to Somerset County Council. The 669 service will feature brand new low-floor access which will improve the service for passengers who have difficulty getting on and off the bus.

From Monday 1 June bus service 668 between Shipham, Cheddar and Street will be improved. The service, which will now be operated by Bakers Coaches, will have low floor accessibility. The route will also be extended to serve Glastonbury, following requests from passengers.

Bus service 19, Street to Bridgwater, is also being revised on 1 June 2009. This service will now be operated by Webberbus, using low floor vehicles. The timetable is also being increased from four to six return journeys per day Monday to Saturday.

Mark Pedlar, Somerset County Council Group Manager for Passenger Transport said: “The extension of these routes and introduction of low floor access will help many people that rely on the bus network to get around. It is our desire to have excellent bus services across the county. We are delighted that the bus companies have responded with these improvements to provide the improvements that customers want on their local buses.”
