Glastonbury revellers get educated on greener travel options

Glastonbury Fire

For this year’s Glastonbury festival, concert-goers are once again being provided with information about the range of alternative travel options to get to the concert site, located near Shepton Mallet in Somerset.

Somerset County Council’s Travel Plan Coordinator said, “This is an excellent example of the ways in which event organisers and owners of facilities attracting large numbers of leisure trips can help improve the journeys of their visitors. This can help reduce the impacts on neighbours and the environment. We produce a full range of travel planning advice to help reduce reliance on cars for these types of trips. I would encourage anyone to contact us for further advice about emulating this for their own sites.”

Among the options for Glastonbury travellers are:

By bus
By train
By car
By bike and motorbike
By air
By lift share
By drop and collect

The festival’s website provides a range of info and maps to plan for the event which runs between Wednesday 24th to Sunday 28th June.

Other examples of organisations already providing smarter travel information for their customers in Somerset include the National Trust, the Somerset Wildlife Trust, and Visit Somerset.
