Choose a way to travel:
Lyde Road is located on the northeastern outskirts of Yeovil. It is within the built up area of the town, and has connections to neighbouring areas through local footway, cycling and public transport networks.
Trains, Working at Home and Park and Ride
WALKING
Walking is a good option to and from Wyndham Park. You can easily walk to town, the bus station, local recreation facilities and shops without needing to use the car.
There are dedicated walking routes to Lyde Road and within Wyndham Park itself. Lyde Road is a short walk from Yeovil Pen Mill Station and is clearly signed (pictured right).
CYCLE TO WORK
Although the topography of Yeovil is not especially suited to cycling for travelling north to south, the east to west routes are more ‘level’, and, in general, the gradients in the town are not a barrier to the use of these methods of transport.
Generally cyclists cycle on-road in this area of Yeovil, although there is a short section of off-road cycle route in the vicinity (linking Ashwood Drive and Redwood Road). Many of the roads are quiet (a typical street is shown left), but steep in some areas.
You can download a general cycling map of Yeovil (Lyde Road development site not yet shown).
CATCH THE BUS
Buses run every 15 minutes within walking distance of your home to Yeovil Town Centre - with nearly 100 buses per day. The current Yeovil day ticket for First services only costs £3.90 (£3.40 after 9am or at weekends), and you can purchase a ticket (or a ticket for a single journey) on the bus. Stick your arm out when to see the bus coming to make sure it stops.
Buses depart from the bus station towards Wyndham Park from stands 12, 13 and 14 (on the main pavement area). There is a good cafe at the bus station open 7 days a week and between 7am-5.30am Monday-Friday, from where bus departures are clearly visible. There is also an unmanned information bureau where timetables are available.
Nippy Bus services N3 and N5 operate in the evenings in the vicinity of the site running along St John’s Road and Cavalier Way respectively.
- For buses to the rail station, see under Trains below.
Bus stops
Bus stops in the vicinity of the site are located on Lyde Road (providing access to bus service number 1) and Cavalier Way (bus services 1 and 932) , and on Hawthorn Road (bus services 2 and 3) and St John’s Road (bus services 2, 3 and 932). Service 68 to both rail stations runs from Lyde Road.

DRIVING
Many employees already travel together to get to work by car. You can look for someone to share lifts with on the internet, using Moving Forward’s www.carsharesomerset.com. Before you set off from work you can also check www.trafficengland.com if you are using the A303 or M5 – plan ahead and don’t leave home just to join the back of a queue.
MOTORCYCLING
Motorcycling is a quick and easy way to avoid congestion for those who prefer to travel independently.
TRAIN SERVICES
Yeovil's well-connected to long-distance train services to major cities and is served by two rail stations; Yeovil Pen Mill and Yeovil Junction.
Yeovil Pen Mill Station is within easy walking and cycling distance: Turn left out of the Pen Mill ticket office and follow the cycle path through the Country Park route for the quickest route to town; Turn right out of the Pen Mill ticket office to get to Lyde Road.
Yeovil Pen Mill Station - facilities | departures
Yeovil Junction Station - facilities | departures
Buses (service 68) run to both rail stations and Yeovil bus station. It takes 10 minutes to Yeovil Pen Mill from Lyde Road. It takes 17 minutes to Yeovil Junction from the junction of St John's Road and Netherton Road. Return journeys from both stations drop off at Lyde Road.
Taxis can be booked through http://www.traintaxi.co.uk/.
WORKING FROM HOME
Ask your employer if you can work at home once a week or more often if your job allows. Using a laptop and a home office space means you can get to work just walking down your stairs.
PARK AND RIDE
Taunton has Park & Ride service situated at the end of the A358 near Junction 25 of the M5, which is well positioned for journeys from Yeovil.
LOCAL FACILITIES
A number of shops, services and leisure activities are provided within walking and cycling distance nearby.
