The Somerset Cycle Rides are an opportunity to get the family together for a leisure ride and enjoy some of the best routes to cycle in Somerset.
All routes start at The Bicycle Chain, Chip Lane, Taunton from 9-11am.
How does it work?
Riders will be given a route cards with a choice of seven different route options to follow. Choose your own route from 15 to 100 Miles, cycling along lanes and cycle ways. The routes will include stops at cyclist-welcome cafes and Bicycle Chain shops.
The event will give you the chance to experience some of the best routes and stopping places for cyclists, in a way which does not detract from the freedom and achievement of riding a bike for fun.
Take the 5 Star Challenge!
Cycle around the countryside to collect up to five stars depending on the route you take. At each of the stops marked on the route map, the route card will be stamped with a different coloured star. Riders can visit as many star points as they wish and will be awarded a certificate after the ride to show how many stars they achieved.
For more ambitious and adventurous riders, there is also the option to do gold star and silver star rides. These will require riders to note down specific information (e.g. a church name) found at certain points on the route.
All riders will receive a goody bag which will include items supplied by The Bicycle Chain, Team Green Britain and Moving Somerset Forward. Mechanical emergencies will be covered by Dereck Cutler of DC Cycleworks at no charge.
Come and do it…just ride in freedom, and have a great day out!
Entry fees: £5 entry fee or £10 for your whole family.
Start anytime between 9 am and 11 am on Sunday 27th June from Bicycle Chain in Chip Lane in Taunton, then ride as far as you wish from the nearest “star” café, just over 7 miles away, or to other star stops increasing your mileage right up to the full Gold Star ride of 100 miles.
