Fuel Consumption

The Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA) runs a fuel consumption testing scheme, which is intended to give car buyers comparative information about the fuel consumption of different models in standard tests.

Nearly all new car models which approved for sale in Europe have to undergo these standard tests to determine their fuel consumption. For more information, follow the link to the VCA website in the related information box.

For older cars, information about the fuel consumption may be found in the car owner’s handbook. You could also try keeping a record of the mileage you cover in between filling up with fuel, and divide your mileage by the costs to work out the miles per gallon/litre.

Good maintenance, keeping tyres inflated, driving at moderate speeds and not carrying around excess weight will ensure that you keep your fuel costs and environmental impact to a minimum.
