Cycle organisations and clubs
There are many clubs and organisations around Somerset where you'll find people to cycle with. Some of these are serious training clubs, both on- and off-road, whilst others have a more relaxed approach. Click on the external links below to find out more.
Taunton Tweed Cycle Chic. A group of classic bike enthusiasts who meet once every three months to cycle and share their love of gorgeous vintage bikes, all whilst dressed in classic attire - no lycra here!
Somerset Road Club. Based in Taunton, but with members from all around the county and further. The club meet regularly for road rides of various difficulties.
Cycle Somerset. Again, based in Taunton, but with a more "everyday" approach. They have weekly rides of various length and terrain, and cycle first and foremost for enjoyment.
Bridgwater Cycling Club. Meeting every Sunday morning for a ride, they always remember to stop for a coffee break half way round.
Minehead Cycling Club. With the Somerset coast and Exmoor right on their doorstep, they also meet each Sunday and often split according to who wants to do what.
Wellington Wheelers Cycling Club. Meeting each Sunday and Wednesday evenings in the summer months, this group welcome cyclists in all their forms.
1st Chard Wheelers. With Somerset, Devon and Dorset all meeting nearby, there's plenty to explore for cyclists of all abilities.
Frome & District Wheelers. Club runs, sportives, track days and even European trips, they do just about it all here, welcoming non-members to their club rides.
Yeovil Cycling Club. Going for over eighty years, with club runs, races and time trials, there's something for everyone here, where they tailor the rides they do to the needs of those present.
Burnham BMX Club. Burnham-on-Sea has on of the country's top BMX tracks, and its club has events for all ages, from under 6s, to even over 30s.
Cycling on Exmoor. The official Exmoor website has a great guide to all the cycling options for the park, including sights to see, places to eat, drink and saty, and information about hiring bikes.
Fenny Castle Bike Hire. Situated between Wells and Glastonbury, this new bike hire centre comes complete with some lovely tea rooms and a bed & breakfast, so you can take several days to explore the area on two wheels. See the website for more info.
