Where To Cycle

Image of a cyclist riding on a country road The main route network for bicycles is the same as that for any other vehicle – the road. Learning to ride confidently on the road is an essential skill for any cyclist as it ensures you can get wherever you need to go, by the most effective route.

The road network is supplemented by a number of other routes that can be used by cyclists, including dedicated cycle routes, bridleways and canal paths. In general, cycling is prohibited on footways, footpaths and pedestrian areas, as well as motorways and individual roads where cycling is specifically forbidden.

Somerset is crossed by a network of wonderful cycle routes, country roads and quiet lanes where cycling is a pleasure. Our towns also have good provision for cyclists travelling for work, shopping and leisure.
