Bicycle User Groups
A Bicycle User Group (BUG) is an association of staff who cycle to/at work and those who might like to. The aim of a BUG is to support people who cycle to work, discuss common opinions and issues cyclists face at their workplace and work with their employer to resolve some of these problems. BUG members may also provide advice to new cyclists in the workplace, help to promote cycling, advise employers on cycling issues and needs and contribute towards travel surveys and the organisation’s travel plan or green travel objectives.
BUGs are normally made up of a cross-section of cyclists, from those who cycle regularly both at work and in leisure time, to those who only cycle occasionally. To set up a BUG, a member of staff needs to volunteer to act as the group administrator and arrange informal meetings during working hours to discuss cycling issues.
