About the SchemeThe Somerset Rural Youth Project Moped Loan Scheme is available to 16 - 25 year olds to access Education and Employment in Somerset. They have a fleet of around 40 mopeds available for a six-month loan period.
Who Can Join?You may qualify for the moped loan scheme if the following applies to you:
- You have poor access to public transport
- You need access to training or further education
- You need to travel as part of your job search
- You need to travel to your place of work and you have limited access to public transport
- You live in or travel to an area with less than 3,000 people
- You are aged between 16 and 25
How Much Does it cost?Participants pay £10 per week towards the running costs of the moped such as tyre wear and oil. In addition a £50 refundable damage deposit is required and a £250 insurance excess.
What About Training?Those who qualify for the scheme must take a Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) test before they are given a moped. Those who have already completed this test will be offered additional training. A full or provisional driving licence is also required.
