Discounted Bus Travel for Students in Somerset

What is County Ticket and County Ticket Plus?
The County Ticket and County Ticket Plus are discounted bus passes for students provided and subsidised by Somerset County Council.

Both passes are valid for unlimited travel on Public Service Bus routes throughout Somerset and on cross border Public Service Bus routes to and from Wiltshire, Dorset and Devon.

The County Ticket Plus is also valid on cross border Public Service Bus routes to and from North Somerset and Bath & North East Somerset.

All journeys must either start or finish within Somerset.

Passes can be used on all Public Service Bus routes operated by the following companies:

Who is Eligible?
To be eligible for a County Ticket or a County Ticket Plus, you must be:

• attending school, college or a 16+ College of Further Education and
• the course you are attending must be funded by the Learning and Skills Council. The school, college or 16+ College of Further Education will be able to confirm this.
• Or, you must be attending a 16+ College of Further Education as part of a Work Based Learning Course.

How Much Does it Cost?
A County Ticket costs from £400 (if paying lump sum) to £440 (if paying by instalments).

A County Ticket Plus costs from £510 (if paying lump sum) to £550 (if paying by instalments).

Both passes are valid for a year from 1st September to 31st August.

County Ticket Plus Discount
If your chosen course is not available in the area covered by the County Ticket and you have to travel across the North Somerset or Bath & North East Somerset border because there isn’t a suitable alternative, you may be entitled to purchase a County Ticket Plus for the same price as a County Ticket. For a reduction to be considered, please provide details of your course with your application.

Applying for a County Ticket or a County Ticket Plus
If you wish to buy a County Ticket or a County Ticket Plus you need to apply in advance, please allow as much time as possible.

• The form will need to be authorised by your school, college or chosen 16+ College of Further Education provider.
• If you are applying to more than one college, you will need to complete an application for each one.

Tickets are issued for a fixed period only from 1st September to 31st August.

• There is no refund or reduction for late applications issued within this period.
• No refunds will be given for the purchase of daily fares whilst you wait for your pass to arrive, so apply early!
• Your Applications must be received by 1st August to guarantee issue by 1st September.
